Why is there not a college course on SEO?

Why is there not a college course on SEO?

Answer-

Backlinks yesterday, social today, AI driven rankings tomorrow? Who knows?

SEO changes too much, too fast which makes it more appropriate for digital courses or one off seminars that can adjust more quickly and have shorter cycles.

People can run an SEO workshop for three or five days or two weeks at a time and then completely change itself again to adjust to the latest trends.

For a course whose curriculum will be fixed in stone at the beginning of the academic year, it will be hard to adjust on the fly.

It’s not a bad idea, though.

Learning the strategy and tactics of SEO via a college course being given one or two hours a week in the classroom for theory and over 16 to 20 weeks to execute it with a lot of accountability (in the form of grades) will also be a lesson in the grit and discipline needed to execute long term SEO strategy.?

What does my client's mean by SEO analysis?

What does my client's mean by SEO analysis?

Answer-

If they are asking you to do this, they may not know exactly what they need, but may be looking to you to guide them in improving their search engine optimization. You should probably have a conversation with them to learn more about their expectations.

You can start by auditing the site, to see what they’ve implemented so far in terms of on-site SEO. There are online tools that can help with this, though you will want to look at the code as well.

You’ll also need to review their Google Analytics to learn more about the traffic they are getting via search and where they have room for improvement.

Additionally you would likely review the content to make sure it is appropriate to their goals and ask them about any off-site SEO and marketing strategies they have employed to drive traffic to their site.

If you are new to SEO, There are also many other good sites and blogs on the topic. Be sure to avoid any espousing black hat tactics or ideas that seem to good to be true.

Content remains the most important thing in SEO. We are trying to attract people—in our target audience—to our sites. As such we need to make sure that we are easily found via search and that the search results they see will compel them to click through to our sites. Thus we need to offer the content they want and format it in a way that makes it easy for search engines to index.

What's the best method of SEO to increase ranking and traffic?

What's the best method of SEO to increase ranking and traffic?

Answer-

SEO and ranking for SERP (Search Engine Results Page) is a system. It consists of different methods and strategies that work in concert to produce rankings.

Strategies and methods would include

  1. Backlinking
  2. Social media
  3. Traffic

With Google’s new algorithm update, gone are the days of depending only on high powered back links from high authority sites. With the rise of user generated content Social Media and Traffic now come into play. Which is more of a natural way of ranking.

Google bot now look at all these factors to rank your site.

Think about it, would a site with high authority backlinks but no traffic and no social media chatter hold more relevant content, than a site with few backlinks but a lot of Social Media activity, and traffic?

And relevancy is the core factor that Google is looking for when serving results for each keyword search.

So if you are looking for the best method for SEO, you have to work on these 3, backlinks, social media, and traffic.

How does an SEO work in Google?

How does an SEO work in Google?

Answer-

SEO is the art or science of gaining top search engine placement for relevant keyword phrases through making search engines believe your site is more relevant than your competition’s websites. One of the most reliable ways to improve traffic is to achieve a high ranking on search engine return pages (SERPs).

As an example. Your site is so new that it's not even listed on any SERPs yet, so your first step is to submit your site to search engines like Google and Yahoo. The Web pages on your site include useful information, exciting photographs and helpful links guiding visitors to other resources. Even with the best information about your site on the Web, your site may not crack the top page of results on major search engines. When people search for the term "keyword" they could end up going to inferior Web sites because yours isn't in the top results.

The Search Engine Optimization comes in two approaches - White Hat Technique and Black Hat Technique. Some SEO steps are time-consuming and expensive. Long-term link building requires significant expense in both time and money.

Thanks

What is canonicalisation in SEO?

What is canonicalisation in SEO?

Answer-

Canonicalization is a concept in which individual web pages is loaded from multiple URLs and there is a fundamental problems because when multiple pages have the same content but different URLs, links that are intended to go to the same page get split up among multiple URLs. SEOs refer to this issue as duplicate content.

There are various canonical problems that affects ranking in search engines such as :

Indexing problems in search engines :

If we have more than one urls of the same page then google’s web crawlers will take time deciding which URL is the correct one to display in search results.

Unclaimed links Problems:

When several other websites are linking with our webpage and they are all linking to different URLs despite linking to the same content. This process give link juice to several weaker pages rather than a single strong one.

Duplicate content:

Duplication issues and canonical URLs can result in lower rankings due to this duplicating content.

What is the easy way to earn money in SEO?

What is the easy way to earn money in SEO?

Answer-

Alright, I’ll give the answer here is two forms. First the short answer, then the long answer.

The short answer: the easiest way to earn money in SEO is to work doing client SEO. That is, ranking businesses websites higher in Google, and in exchange they pay you a monthly retainer.

The long answer: client SEO is still the fastest path to the cash for making money with SEO, but it’s not quite a push button solution.Client SEO is how I’ve made money and grown my business to some amazing places over the last 12 months. In fact, client SEO has been my and my agency’s exclusive focus.

We’ve talk about expanding into affiliate SEO and dabbled with the pay per lead model of local SEO. I’m sure there will be a point in our business where we seriously invest in opening a new income stream with affiliate SEO of some kind. But client SEO, is just, pardon me for saying, just so much easier.

Now, quickly though, I want to qualify that “easy”. When I say easier, I mean it’s quicker to be paid for than affiliate SEO, and much faster to scale up than affiliate SEO.The appeal of affiliate SEO for a lot of people is that, it can be very hands off eventually as you grow your business. That dream of passive income that everyone wants, the closest you’ll come to that is probably affiliate SEO if you’re doing it at a very high level.

However, unless you’ve been in the SEO trenches for a while and have a good feel for Google and how it operates, diving headfirst into affiliate SEO is probably not a smart idea. The reason I say this is because, affiliate SEO takes a lot more time to produce your first dollar and it also takes a lot of patience and up front investment. If you’re excited about SEO and the possibilities there, then you jump on the bandwagon for affiliate, only to have absolutely no progress to show for 3 - 6 months. Then you’re going to burn out and you’re going to quit.

However, with client SEO, the time to that first dollar is fast. You talk with a business, you know that they need better rankings, you offer to get them those rankings for a price, then you close the sale. Bing, bang, boom, you’ve made your first dollars with SEO.

The sales cycle for client SEO can take a little while depending on the industry and the price point, but I can tell you nine times out of ten it’s a helluva lot faster than affiliate SEO.Again though, this is not to dump on affiliate SEO. I have some great friends just killing it in that space and I have great respect (and maybe a little envy) for what they’re doing.

But for beginners to SEO looking to make money from their knowledge, or get the money to finance learning SEO, then they should stick with client SEO.

It literally is the fastest path to the cash in this case, and the fastest path to the cash is what it’s all about in the beginning.

What is Google sandbox in SEO?

What is Google sandbox in SEO?

Answer-

The Google sandbox refers to a commonly held belief that Google has a filter that places all new websites under restrictions for a certain amount of time to prevent them from ranking in searches. The idea behind the Google sandbox is that newer websites are not as relevant as older sites, and they are also more likely to be spam. For this reason, they are restricted and allowed to mature before being allowed to rank well, much as a young child is placed to play in a sandbox by his or her caregiver. Although Google will neither confirm nor deny the existence of the sandbox, it is widely accepted as fact.

How Hashtags can be used in SEO? Google Launching Hashtag Search, do you think it would impact SEO?

How Hashtags can be used in SEO? Google Launching Hashtag Search, do you think it would impact SEO?

Answer-

If you search for a keyword on Google with or without the pound character, there are both differences and a lot of overlap; the differences mean that trying to specifically target the hashtag could help you rank when people look for that.

The real question, imho, is how often will people search for the hashtag (with the pound), instead of just searching for the keyword. Targeting hashtags will become important in SEO if many people will start searching for keywords-with-the-pound.

What's new in SEO in 2017?

Search engine optimization is evolving at lightning speed. As 2016 begins to wind down, it is time to examine the digital marketing landscape for the upcoming year.
There have been numerous developments in SEO over the past 10 months. A lot of the prominent trends of 2016 will continue and grow in 2017. As Google’s algorithm updates constantly keep business owners on their toes, several other trends are expected to take shape in 2017.
Here are a few things look out for in the ensuing months:
Optimization for user intent
Although keywords are still important, typing in simple words yields simple results. Consumers today know exactly what they’re looking for, and search engines are getting much better at identifying user intent. Therefore, users are now entering full queries or phrases in search engines, which gather data and heuristics to provide results more effectively.
In 2017, brands will need to place value on optimizing their digital content based on intent rather than specific keywords. For your SEO strategy, it will be critical to:
  1. Investigate. What are users searching for that brings them to your page? What questions do they want your content to answer?
  2. Optimize. Once you have gathered your research data and found areas that need work, make the changes needed to boost ratings. Based on your research, tell the consumer’s story by altering content to reflect the reader’s experience.
  3. Adjust. Keep up with analytics to see what’s working and what isn’t so you can update accordingly.
More rich answers and snippets
We all turn to Google for answers. In response to our queries, Google will often display the required information directly in search results, along with other helpful websites, videos, movie or event information, reviews or specific dates.
Structured data markup (often referred to as “schema markup”) can help website owners achieve these enhanced listings on search engine results pages (SERPs). This markup works to assist search engines in understanding website content, allowing them to display that information in a way that is helpful for users.
For example, let’s say you ask Google for instructions for cooking meatloaf. The SERP features a rich answer (also known as a “direct answer” or “featured snippet”), followed by search listings that contain rich snippets relevant to recipes, such as reviews, ratings, cook time and calorie information:
What's new in SEO in 2017?
According to a study by Stone Temple Consulting, the volume of rich answers appearing in search results has nearly doubled from 2014 to 2016. If this trend continues, we’re likely to see an even greater number in the coming years.
Adding structured data markup to your website can increase your chances of having an enhanced SERP listing, being featured in a rich answer, or (in the case of branded searches) having a knowledge panel appear.
Users love quick access to useful information like this, so do yourself a favor and consider implementing schema markup for your website in 2017, if you haven’t already.
Cross-channel marketing
Cross-channel and multi-channel marketing sound similar, but in actuality, they are very different. Multi-channel simply means establishing a presence on more than one platform. Cross-channel means you are using several channels to market your brand in an integrated way. For example, if users are browsing products on a mobile app but decide not to buy, you can send them targeted ads based on their searches via email or social media.
Multi-channel marketing is by no means a new phenomenon. Cross-channel marketing, however, is like an extension of it. The primary goal of cross-channel marketing is to create a consistent brand presence across multiple channels so that users can move seamlessly between devices and platforms to make a purchase.
According to Econsultancy’s fourth annual Cross-Channel Marketing Report, 73 percent of respondents claimed that cross-channel marketing had a significant impact on increased conversion rates. However, it is only effective if you know your target audience and their consumption habits. The big challenges that businesses face in this process include:
  • knowing what the right message is
  • finding the right time to release it
  • using the correct channel
Although there are several tools and resources to help, cross-channel marketing is still in the infancy stages, even with the widespread adoption of mobile devices. Consumers today are more connected than ever, and the need for quality cross-channel marketing will continue to be in high demand throughout 2017.
Increased mobile growth
Mobile accessibility has reshaped SEO over the past few years. Mobile search is growing at a rapid pace and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down in the future. Traffic distribution has been shifting away from desktop and moving towards mobile devices, and many websites are already getting the majority of their traffic from mobile devices.
In May 2015, Google reported that mobile searches had surpassed desktop searcheson its search engine. Since then, the company has taken many steps which signal that mobile, not desktop, should be considered as the default user experience. In fact, Google recently announced that it has begun experiments to make its index mobile-first.
Mobile optimization is already extremely important in SEO strategies. However, it will prove to be mandatory in 2017.
Voice search is the next big thing
Voice search has been an ongoing project in the tech industry for a few years now. In the process of working out the kinks, it has become one of the fastest-growing search options. The appeal is undeniable. It’s hands-free, fast and futuristic.
As technology improves with each update, the error rate of voice search plummets. In his keynote speech at SMX West 2016, Google’s director of conversational search, Behshad Behzadi, noted that the speech recognition error rate has been reduced from around 25 percent two years ago to just 8 percent today.
The goal for voice search in 2017 is to go above and beyond voice recognition and evolve into voice understanding. This involves several changes with respect to:
  • previous searches
  • location-based context
  • context based on frequently used apps
  • personalized information
  • keyword research based on spoken queries
There’s no denying that voice search is a one of the biggest trends of the digital age. With massive improvements to Siri, Google Now and Cortana, SEO marketers would be wise to closely examine voice innovation and think beyond text-based queries in 2017.
Closing thoughts
The year 2017 will be a big year all around. Users are becoming increasingly connected and engaged with the content they consume. It is very important for SEO marketers to factor these upcoming trends into the bigger picture in order to be prepared to take on future challenges.
